Our Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) provides you with the rigorous practical skills training and procedural knowledge demanded by the bar. If your aim is to become a barrister, this is the course for you.
From day one, our aim is to prepare you for a career as a barrister. You’ll learn in an environment which mirrors practice, comprising highly interactive work in small groups that we call “chambers groups”.
You’ll also benefit from a wealth of networking opportunities, expertise, facilities and support, all based in a modern law school at the heart of the UK’s second largest legal hub.
To find out more about what and how you’ll study, how to apply, fees and much more, use the links on the left hand side to explore the site. Alternatively, to contact us directly, email bptc@mmu.ac.uk or call +44 (0)161 247 3053.

“After I graduated I found pupillage straight away. I’m now coming to the end of my first year of tenancy, and I absolutely love being a barrister. The BPTC at MMU was really thorough and prepared me for the job. It’s intense, but you need that because life as a barrister is intense too.”

Your future
We conducted a survey of our bar graduates from 2005, with the aim of finding out where training with us had taken them. Of those that responded, we found that:
51% are currently practising at the bar
91% are in legally related employment
We’re proud of the fact that such a high number of our graduates go on to forge a legal career.
