School of Law: LLB (Hons) Full-time

Overview

The full-time LLB degree is our largest undergraduate programme, admitting over 200 new students each year. The programme combines the study of key areas of law with training in legal method and skills.

The mandatory units include the subjects known as the "Foundations of Legal Knowledge", which are required by the Law Society and the General Council of the Bar, as well as other subjects which develop core legal knowledge and skills. The number of mandatory units decreases in each year of the programme, so while first year students get a sound basis for the rest of their studies, students in the second and third years get the opportunity to develop their own legal interests appropriate to their future career or research plans by choosing electives from an extensive menu.

Independent thinking and working is encouraged throughout the programme, culminating in the final year in the opportunity to produce of a dissertation, which is a research project based broadly on an area of the student's own choice, supervised by a member of staff with expertise in that area.

Students who complete the degree programme are well equipped for a wide variety of careers. Those wishing to become barristers or solicitors can continue their studies at MMU on the Legal Practice Course or Bar Vocational Course.
